COSCO Shipping has successfully completed its first green methanol bunkering operation using domestically produced fuel on one of its newly-delivered vessels.
The bunkering took place on 7 July at Yangpu Port, China, where the newly delivered dual-fuel container ship received 200 metric tons of green methanol, according to a report by state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV).
To remind, on June 20, the M.V. COSCO Shipping Yangpu, China’s first 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship, was officially delivered by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou.
According to COSCO, this milestone represents three national firsts: the first methanol dual-fuel vessel ordered by a Chinese shipowner, the first of its kind built by a Chinese shipyard and the first to be equipped with a domestically manufactured methanol engine. The vessel also features key safety innovations, including a triangular-array methanol tank and a freshwater purging system.
