Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. announced that it has successfully launched a methanol dual-fuelled 5,900 TEU container ship on 27 August 2025, with delivery scheduled for February 2026.
This is the largest container ship ever built by the group, capable of carrying up to 5,915 TEU, including 1,400 refrigerated containers, and features enhanced fuel efficiency through an improved hull design, proprietary energy-saving technology (MT-FAST), and a large-capacity shaft generator.
The vessel represents a step toward zero CO₂ emissions by using green methanol fuel. Both its main engine and on-board generators, including the HD Hyundai HiMSEN engine (8H32DF-LM), can operate on methanol.
Additionally, it can connect to large-capacity shore power while in port, allowing generator shutdown to further reduce emissions.
President Murakami Yoshifumi highlighted that the launch is a historic milestone, emphasizing the group’s commitment to building environmentally responsible, next-generation vessels that balance safety, quality, and sustainability, contributing to a low-carbon future.
