Grimaldi announced on 21 July the naming of Grande Shanghai, the first in a series of ten next-generation pure car & truck carrier (PCTC) vessels commissioned from China Merchants Heavy Industries.
With a capacity of 9,000 car equivalent units (CEU), the Grande Shanghai marks the company’s first ammonia ready vessel.
As stated, the vessel is designed for maximum efficiency and aims to reduce fuel consumption per transported unit by 50% compared to previous-generation car carriers.
Moreover, other technologies featured on the carrier include lithium batteries with a total power of 5 MWh, 2,500 square meters of solar panels and cold ironing with shoreside supply of electricity.
