The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping announced that Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub (the Decarb Hub) is joining as a Knowledge Partner.
As explained, this partnership supports the shared mission of both organizations: to accelerate the transformation of the global maritime sector through interdisciplinary collaboration, shared data foundations, and systems-based approaches.
As a Knowledge Partner, the Decarb Hub will provide expertise in risk and safety engineering, analysis, human factors, and policy insights. It will work closely with the Center’s technical teams on areas such as the safe implementation of sustainable marine fuels—particularly ammonia—offering in-depth industry knowledge on associated risks and mitigations, as well as technical guidance on a human-centered approach to designing ammonia systems for vessels.
Since 2021, the Center has collaborated with the Decarb Hub through a joint work program focused on safety and risk management related to the use of ammonia as a marine fuel. This collaboration has now reached a level of maturity that naturally leads to the formalization of the relationship through a long-term partnership.
The Decarb Hub has established itself as an independent actor, not-for-profit research and action unit, combining technical insight, systems thinking, and a deep understanding of maritime transition pathways. Their approach aligns closely with our ambition to accelerate a safe and sustainable transition to zero emissions
… said Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
By joining as a Knowledge Partner, the Decarb Hub will contribute additional scientific and strategic capabilities to support the Center’s mission to accelerate the safe and sustainable decarbonization of global shipping.
By combining our expertise and experience in green corridor development, quantitative risk assessment, and seafarer competency mapping with the Center’s world-leading capabilities in operational safety and fuel transition modelling, we look forward to driving thesafe and scalable adoption of sustainable fuels across the international fleet to deliver meaningful progress toward a zero-emission maritime future
