On July 18, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) took delivery of a new LNG-fueled car carrier named Tethys Highway, built by Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The vessel, which can carry up to 6,900 vehicles, was named during a ceremony by Mr. Tsuguo Fukumura, Senior Executive Officer of Isuzu Motors Limited. According to “K” Line, LNG is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by 25–30% and sulfur oxides by nearly 100% compared to traditional heavy fuel oil, marking a significant step in environmentally conscious shipping.
The Tethys Highway measures nearly 200 meters in length with a beam and depth of 38 meters, has a gross tonnage of 75,259 tons, and can travel at 19 knots under the Japanese flag.
In March, “K” Line took delivery of Oceanus Highway, an LNG dual-fuel car carrier with a capacity of 6,900 vehicles. Additionally, Pontus Highway, also an LNG dual-fuel car carrier, was delivered to “K” Line in November, 2024.
