COSCO SHIPPING christened its third methanol dual-fuel containership, COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA, on July 18 at Yangzhou COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry.
The COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA measures 366 meters in length and 51 meters in beam, with a capacity of 16,136 TEU. It features an 11,000 cbm methanol storage tank and is powered by a domestically developed methanol dual-fuel engine. Unlike its predecessors, the vessel is methanol-ready upon delivery, integrating methanol-fueled systems throughout for immediate use of alternative fuel.
This new vessel follows the COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU, which began its maiden voyage to the U.S. West Coast after successfully bunkering over 1,600 tons of green methanol in several Chinese ports.
As more methanol-capable ships like the upcoming N1074 join the fleet, COSCO SHIPPING continues to solidify its role in the transition to cleaner, scalable fuel alternatives in global maritime transport. To remind, in June, the M.V. Cosco Shipping Yangpu, China’s first 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship, was officially delivered by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou.
Officiated by Ms. Xu Hui and attended by top executives and partners, the event highlights COSCO’s growing commitment to green shipping solutions.
