ANDRITZ, an international technology group, has secured a contract from Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) to supply electromechanical equipment for the new Tarali pumped storage plant in Maharashtra, India.
The scope of the contract includes the design, manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning of pump turbines, motor generators, and related equipment. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
Located in the Satara district, the Tarali project will have a capacity of 1500MW. It is part of India’s broader efforts to expand pumped storage capacity to support grid stability as more solar and wind energy is added to the national mix.
This is the second project awarded by AGEL to ANDRITZ. The company previously received an order for the 500MW Chitravathi pumped storage plant in 2023.
The equipment for Tarali will be produced at ANDRITZ’s manufacturing facilities in India, with additional support from its global network.
“The repeat order from AGEL underlines ANDRITZ’s strong position in the Indian hydropower market and its expertise in delivering pumped storage solutions, which play a crucial role in ensuring grid stability and supporting the integration of variable renewable energy,” the company stated.
ANDRITZ is currently working on four pumped storage projects in India.
