“K” Line Energy Shipping (UK) Limited (KLES) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Yinson Production to jointly develop and market solutions for transporting and injecting liquefied CO2.
The partnership will focus on creating a floating storage and injection unit (FSIU) and a liquefied CO2 carrier, with a particular emphasis on carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in Europe. As explained, FSIUs offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for such offshore CCS projects. One example is the Havstjerne carbon storage project in Norway, 40% owned by Stella Maris CCS, a Yinson Production unit.
According to KLES, offshore sequestration is emerging as a safe and efficient method for storing large volumes of CO2, especially in areas where onshore facilities are impractical.
By combining our FPSO and offshore engineering expertise with “K” LINE’s proven CO2 shipping capabilities, we are well positioned to contribute to the development of innovative services that will enable large-scale carbon transport and storage
… said Lars Gunnar Vogt, Chief Technical Officer of Yinson Production.
This collaboration builds on a relationship that began in 2018 with the co-ownership of FPSOs Anna Nery and John Agyekum Kufuor in Brazil and Ghana. The new initiative aims to integrate both companies’ strengths to support industrial decarbonisation and advance the global CCS value chain.
By combining their offshore engineering expertise with our experience in CO2 shipping, we are developing an offshore unloading capability and bespoke transport solutions to serve a broader range of CO2 storage sites.
