NatPower H, a developer for the production, storage, and distribution of green hydrogen and part of the NatPower Group in the maritime sector, has announced hydrogen refuelling of ALBA, Europe’s first electro-hydrogen training vessel certified by Bureau Veritas.
The refuelling operation was carried out at Port de Fontvieille, with the valuable support of the City of Monaco and the Yacht Club de Monaco, confirming the Principality’s active commitment to promoting sustainable innovation in the maritime sector.
The refuelling operation was conducted over two days with the technical support of Linde Gas Italia:
- On 8 June 2025, NatPower H delivered 65 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar.
- On 9 June 2025, an additional 45 kg of hydrogen was supplied, bringing the total to 110 kg of green hydrogen.
The refuelling of NatPower will allow the ALBA training ship to navigate with zero emissions for 10 hours. ALBA is a 19.95 m long, 5.60 m wide vessel designed for fishing and halieutic research training. It is powered by a hybrid electric-hydrogen propulsion system, including two 70 kW fuel cells, two 200 kW main engines, and two 178 kWh batteries. Hydrogen is stored onboard in tanks with a total capacity of 75.6 kg at 350 bar, enabling completely zero-emission navigation and training operations.
The vessel, developed by EODev in collaboration with the Lycée MariWme de BasWa and a network of marine and energy experts, was built to Bureau Veritas standards and is registered under the French flag. ALBA is not only a training platform but also a tangible example of innovation in sustainable maritime operations, designed to reduce both emissions and noise pollution drastically.
With this operation, NatPower H reaffirms its leadership in deploying practical and scalable hydrogen refuelling solutions for next-generation vessels. The ALBA project adds to a growing list of refuelling initiatives carried out by NatPower H, including:
- Tullio Abbate Elite 27 H Poseidon: hydrogen refuelling on a lake, achieved with GEKO-Inocel and Tullio Abbate.
- BGH Chase Boat: Italy’s first hydrogen refuelling of a vessel for the 37th America’s Cup, in partnership with Bluegame.
- Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024: refuelling of three hydrogen-powered boats during the event, confirming hydrogen’s readiness for competitive maritime use.
These operations highlight NatPower H’s ongoing commitment to the decarbonisation of the maritime sector and the development of a robust hydrogen supply chain capable of supporting both innovation and environmental responsibility.
