The Hong Kong Marine Department (MD) announced on 30 June the launch of the Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering Incentive Scheme to facilitate the development of Hong Kong into an alternative fuel bunkering centre.
As stated, the scheme offers $500,000 incentives per pioneer company for each of their first two LNG or green methanol bunkering operations completed within one year of risk assessment approval.
Furthermore, companies that completed assessments or operations before the scheme launch are also eligible with the maximum incentive per fuel type to be $2,000,000, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
A spokesperson highlighted Hong Kong’s commitment to IMO emission reduction targets and its strategic location as a major bunkering port.
The scheme also aims to support early pioneers and promote fair competition in green maritime fuel bunkering.
