In early August, Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. announced the delivery of the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY, an LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) with a capacity of approximately 7,000 vehicles.
As informed, the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY is powered by LNG, offering significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Compared to conventional heavy oil-fueled vessels, carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions are reduced by approximately 25 to 30 percent. Additionally, Imabari Shipbuilding claimed that sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions, are nearly eliminated, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are cut by 80 to 90 percent through the use of an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.
To further support environmental performance, the vessel incorporates a boil-off gas (BOG) treatment system. BOG, which is naturally generated from the LNG fuel tanks, is efficiently used in the ship’s generators and boilers, minimizing fuel waste and reducing overall emissions.
In terms of cargo handling, the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY features a bulkheadless cargo hold with wide, straight-line ramps that simplify internal vehicle movement. This layout enhances safety, improves visibility, and streamlines operations, resulting in greater loading and unloading efficiency. The ship is also equipped with liftable decks, allowing operators to adjust the deck height to accommodate a wider range of cargo.
