The Mein Schiff Relax, TUI Cruises’ first InTUItion class vessel, received the first bio-LNG supply from a barge at the Port of Barcelona on 26 July, marking the port’s first ship-to-ship (STS) bio-LNG bunkering operation.
The bio-LNG, supplied by the barge Haugesund Knutsen chartered by Shell, came from Enagás’s regasification plant and totaled 1,875 m³. As stated, Bio-LNG, produced from organic waste, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70-100% compared to fossil fuels, supporting decarbonization goals under the FuelEU Maritime Directive.
As stated, this operation marked the second bio-LNG supply at the port but the first ship-to-ship bunkering, significantly speeding up fuel loading compared to tanker trucks.
The Mein Schiff Relax operates primarily on LNG, while newer ships like Mein Schiff 7 are designed for next-generation fuels such as green methanol, alongside other emission-reducing technologies.
