The German government has announced a €400 million investment to support climate-neutral shipping and port modernization.
As stated, the funding, drawn from the country’s Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF), aims to accelerate the energy transition in the maritime industry. Specifically, it will support the implementation of the National Port Strategy and the National Action Plan for Climate-Friendly Shipping. The funds are intended to co-finance the construction of shore power and bunkering facilities for alternative fuels.
As reported, they will also further contribute to the development and upgrade of climate-neutral shipping corridors and inland waterway transport, reinforcing Germany’s commitment to sustainable maritime infrastructure. The funding will be distributed over a four-year period through the KTF.
Modern shipping, supported by appropriate infrastructure, is vital to Germany’s position as a global economic hub. The Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder emphasized, “The federal government, the states, and the private sector must now join forces to meet the demands of transformation. The millions of euros for modernization are an important step in this.”
